Our public talks have now wrapped up for this year as we are having a wee break over the summer while everyone is on holiday and exploring our beautiful country.
The Geopark Public Talk series is part of our community engagement and education programme. We are thrilled that we were able to bring experts from all kinds of backgrounds to Oamaru to share their knowledge and expertise with Waitakians (and the world thanks to Zoom and Facebook Live). The topics presented were always relevant to Waitaki and were designed to showcase Waitaki's geological, cultural and natural stories through an educational lens. Our speakers (and their topics) for 2020 were:
July: Brian Miller - From Zealandia to Oamaru
September: Dr Philippa Agnew - Oamaru's Little Blue Penguin
October: David Barrell - Visit Gondwana; without leaving home
November: Gareth Boyt - Ki Uta Ki Tai; Everything is connected

A big thank you to all our speakers for taking the time to come to Oamaru and present about their area of expertise.
We would also like to thank the Oamaru Public library for providing their fabulous space for our public talks. A special thank you goes out to Debbie who has supported and hosted us and the speakers every month.
The Geopark public talk series will re-commence in February 2021 - Every third Thursday of the month! Stay tuned for the upcoming speakers and sign up to our newsletter so you don't miss important dates and announcements.
