WRAPPING UP THE EARTH: CAUGHT IN STONE EXHIBITION

Updated: Jun 9, 2022

Over the last two months, we have collaborated with the Forrester Gallery to bring the exhibition “Earth: caught in stone” to Ōamaru. This exhibition showcased earth science research and its interpretation through art. Many of the exhibits featured earth science topics that are featured within the Waitaki Whitestone Geopark.

As part of the exhibition, the Curator of the Forrester Gallery Liz and our geoeducator Sasha offered schools the opportunity to visit and participate in educational activities. As we were aware that transport costs can be a challenge for schools, we have applied for funding to cover those costs. A huge thanks to The Lion Foundation who have funded those bus trips and allowed 494 local students to take advantage of this education programme! Participating schools were:

  • Waitaki Girls High School

  • Waitaki Boys High School

  • St Kevin's College

  • Weston School

  • Totara School

  • & Barnardos Early Learning Centre

Liz and Sasha also created take-away activities and videos around some of those exhibits which will allow anyone to learn more about our local earth science and express their learnings in art even now the exhibition is over. You can find all of those working sheets and videos here.
